Pro Tips
Expert advice to accelerate your progress

Posture is Everything

Sit at the center of the piano with your feet flat on the floor. Your forearms should be parallel to the floor when your hands are on the keys. Good posture prevents injury and improves your playing.

Practice Daily

Even 15-20 minutes daily is better than one long session per week. Consistency builds muscle memory.

Bench Height

Adjust your bench so your elbows are slightly higher than the keys. This gives you better control and prevents wrist strain.

Week 1 Goal

By the end of Week 1, you should comfortably identify Middle C, understand finger numbering, and maintain proper posture at the piano.

Piano Reference
Piano keyboard showing Middle C position clearly marked

Finding Middle C (Red): Middle C is the white key just to the left of the group of two black keys that sits near the center of your keyboard. That's it — find the middle of the piano, look for two black keys, and the white key right before them is Middle C. This is your most important reference point for all piano playing.

Keyboard Facts: A standard piano has 88 keys total - 52 white keys and 36 black keys.

White Keys: Play the natural notes C-D-E-F-G-A-B (repeating across the keyboard).

Black Keys Pattern: Arranged in alternating groups of 2 and 3 throughout the entire keyboard. This repeating pattern helps you navigate and identify any note quickly.

Octaves: The pattern of 12 keys (7 white + 5 black) repeats across the keyboard, spanning from A0 (lowest) to C8 (highest).

Quick Reference

Right Hand Position:

Thumb on Middle C, fingers 1-5 on C-D-E-F-G

Left Hand Position:

Pinky on C below Middle C, fingers 5-1 on C-D-E-F-G
